Fantastic color photographs from Russia in the Early 1900’s

The Denver Post collected a great collection of color photographs from Russia in the early 1900′s. They were taken by Russian chemist and photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii.

If you want to learn more about Prokudin-Gorskii, the process he used to create the color photographs, and see his collection, you can visit the Library of Congress, who owns his glass negatives after purchasing them in 1948.

Shooting sequences with Chase Jarvis

While shooting for Sandisk in New Zealand, famous outdoor photographer Chase Jarvis took the time to record small videos about some techniques he used for this project.

The following video will explained to you what to do in order to produce, after editing it in Photoshop, an image like this one.

Laurent Nivalle

If you like cars and photography, you will love the work of Laurent Nivalle. This French photographer, also working for the Citroën Design Center, has a series of behind the scenes pictures about the making of a new concept car recently designed, the Citroën Revolte 2009.

The Best Camera, an iPhone application, a book and a community

In a previous article, I was talking about how important the iPhone  had become in photography and how Chase Jarvis was using it on a daily basis. The problem is that he didn’t like the existing retouching and sharing applications so, with the help of Übermind, he created his own.

Called “The Best Camera”, the program lets you edit your photos with several filters and effects, and you can then share them on Facebook, Twitter and on the new dedicated website, thebestcamera.com. A book of iPhone photographs called The Best Camera Is The One That’s With You was also published to complete the experience.

Chase Jarvis made two videos where he explains why he created the application and how to use it.

The Best Camera iPhone application is available on iTunes and the book can be purchased on Amazon.

Iphone photos

The iPhone is in everyone’s pocket nowadays, making it a great camera since it is always with you. Chase Jarvis, famous outdoor/lifestyle photographer and usually shooting with a Nikon D3x or an Hasselblad, has an large collection of shots taken with the device. Another interesting statistic, it is the most popular camera on Flickr, the second largest photo sharing site on the internet. I think there is a certain charm in the images captured with the iPhone, especially with the first and second generations that don’t have autofocus or manual settings.

Here are a few photos I took with my first generation iPhone.

J. Aaron Greene and the New York Times also have a great collection of photos taken with iPhones and other camera phones.

Worldwide photo walk winner

Organized by Scott Kelby, the worldwide photo walk took place a couple months ago and the winners of the best picture competition were recently announced. The first price went to Bossakorn Buena, a photographer from Thailand who took this great photo of a little girl riding in a traditionnal boat.

Flickr iPhone app, now available for…

Unfortunately not everyone… Many Flickr members have been waiting to get their hands on an official iPhone app, and now that it is available, only people living in the US, Canada, UK, France, Hong Kong or Singapore are able to download it. Others users, like myself, can still use Mobile Fotos, FlickIt (free) or Darkslide while waiting for Yahoo to release it everywhere.
